2024 June
Greetings, art lovers!
Summer has arrived in Dubai, and with temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius, it's incredibly hot and humid. And this isn't even the peak of summer yet! We mostly stay indoors, with life buzzing during the wee hours. Midnight drives for donuts and coffee are a regular treat.
I'll tell you about a best friend of mine who's a bit older than me, our friendship has stood the test of time. It's filled with pure fun and great conversations. She's super funny and clever. Unlike some past friendships that made me feel inadequate, this one is a treasure—there's no ego between us. I truly believe we'll be best friends for life. Artworks have similar emotional connections; some are fleeting, while others are lasting. I often give away my artworks rather than sell them cheaply.
Speaking of sales, I used to attend an art bazaar regularly, selling my small flower drawings for $100 each. I’ve considered making more, but it's not my long-term goal, so I have second thoughts. Another friend and I were planning workshops as a business. I booked venues and streamlined plans, but when she changed the agreed details, I backed out. I'm also considering selling painted scarves—I bought a luggage full of silk fabrics and paints and can't wait to get a sewing machine. Yet again, this isn't the long-term goal.
The ultimate goal is to become a successful fine artist, whether that means being represented by a gallery or having valuable collectors. Living an amazing life dedicated to creating fine art is the dream. In the arts, there are countless experiments with style and execution, just as in life. We often get sidetracked by potential business ventures, losing sight of our main objective.
What I really need now is development, and the only solution is to work hard. I'm once again feeling anxious about the future. While it's important to stay mindful of the present, I'm trying to be ambitious again. I hope everything works out well. May your July be filled with hope and fun, and may you keep creating, whether you're traveling or staying indoors.
Xoxo,
Nellie
